The Victoria Beach Police Board is pleased to welcome Kevin Birkett as our new Chief Constable effective November 1. Chief Birkett retired from the Winnipeg Police Service after serving for 35 years. Throughout his lengthy career he specialized in community policing, particularly during the last 5 years of his service when he worked as the Community Support Officer in charge of the Higgins/Main Street area. In November 2019, Chief Birkett received the Attorney General's Award for Community Policing - which is a testament to all of his accomplishments. Kevin and his wife, Lynne, have relocated to the RM and we look forward to having them as part of our community.
The Victoria Beach Police office is situated at #69- PTH 59 and shares space in the Fire Hall. The VB Public Works is located on the same property, putting all 3 municipal departments together.
The Victoria Beach Police are responsible for municipal by-laws, Provincial Acts such as the Highway Traffic Act, Off Road Vehicle Act and the Liquor Control Act as well as any breach of the Criminal Code of Canada. The Canadian Coast Guard are responsible for boats on Lake Winnipeg but the Victoria Beach Police are called upon to attend any mishap that involves a swimmer(s) on any of the beaches in the RM.
